The " Cleveland (Ohio) Pres.v" of February 23rd, 1883, published an account of ft fatal sutgiral operation which caused a great commotion among medical men throughout the whole country, Dr Thtyer, the most eminent surgeon m Cleveland, pronouneng it scandalous. It •ppears that a Mrs King has been suffering Tor -many years from some disease which had res-isted the treatment of *U the physicians m attendance. The disease commenced with a alight derangement of the digestion, with a poor appetite, followed by a peculiar indescribable di'treas m the stomach, a feeing that has been described as a faint " all gone " sensation, a sticky slime collecting aboi } die teeth, catising a disagreeable taste. Thi< sensation was not remorcd by food, but, on the contrary, it was increased. After a vhi c the hands and feet became cold and sticky— acold perspiration. There was a constant tired a^d languid feeling. Then followed a dreadful nervousness, with gloom* forebodingi. Fimlly the patient was unable to retain any food whatever, and there was constant pain m the abdomen. All prescribed remedies faiing to give relief, and a consultation was held, when it was decided that the patient had a cancer m the stomach and m order to save the patient's life an operation w»b justifiable. Accordingly, on the 22nd of February, the operation was p^rformei by Dr Vance, m the presence of Dr Tuckcrmao, Dr Perrier, Dr Arms, Dr Gordon, Dr Capncr, and Dr Halliwell, «f the Police Board. The operation consisted m laying open the cavity of the abdomen and exposing the stomach and bowels. When this had been clone an txamination of the organs was made, but to the horror and dismay of the doctors there was no cancer to Ye found. The patient did net have a cancer, When too late the medical men discovered that they had made a terriHc mistake ; lut they sewed (he pads together and dressed the wound that they had made, but the poor woman sank from exhaustion and died m a few hours. How »d it must be for the husband of this poor wom<n to know that his wife died from the effects of a surgical operation that ought never to have been performed. If this woman could have taken the proper remedy, vis , bought one of FERRIMAN'B MARVELLOUS STEAM WASHING MACHINEB, And saved the continual strain on her enfeebled and weakly condition, brought about by a lite fpent at the wash-tub for the comfort o! her family, she might have spent many happy years more amongst them, and had her nam: handed down to posterity as a model mother, ALBEET ROBERTS has fob sale,— Clovers, — BED, WHITE, COWGRASS, ALSYKE, andITBEFOILT RYEGRASB, COCKSFOOT, and RAPE.
