Mr Itom, who opposes Mr Ormond m the liberal interest, had a good meeting at the Port last nlgh^ The following resolution was carried unanimously: "That after the spirited and manly address just delivered by Mr Ivess this meeting begs to record a rote of thanks for his address aad 111 confidence m him as future member for Napier, and further pledges Itself to do Its utmost to occurs his return.** Mr A. R. M. LasceUes, solioitor and a Miolßterallat, opened his stump at Waipawa last night with a vigorous speech. He was vety indignant at the cy of " stinking fiib " raised all over the oolony whan the difficulties really were very triflingi He would have members show the sincerity of their demand for retrenchment by abolishing the honorarium until better times return, and let constituencies who return poor men subscribe to save their member from loss. He had had rxptrieneeln the Indian Forests Department, and thinks it important to carry on suoh work m New Zealand. Mr Eden George, the new candidate for Ohristohnrch Booth, addressed a large meeting m the Oddfellows' Hall this evening. Though* a young man and evidently nervous he made a fairly favorable Impression and received a vote of thanks. He declared himielf a Minis* A»rial supporter; Mr Daniel Reese had sn orderly meetIng at Llnwood to-night and received a yoU of thanks. PuifMiir, August 10. M? E. P. Oarglll, a candidate for Dnnedin Central, addressed the electors tonight. He advovcated protection to satire industries on a moderate, scale. He waa opposed to the present Government, but - before voting against them would want to know who was to succeed them. He thought there was no need for the colony to osoillate between Yogel and Atkinson, as young men should be found to guide its destinies. He received a vote of confidence.
