At the Otahuhn Police Oourt on Saturday, George Martyn was committed to take his trial at the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, on a charge of setting fire, m January last, to a dwelling occupied by him at East Tamakl, and stealing a breech-loading gun, the property of Lieutenant-Colonel Shepherd. On Saturday last at Whangarei, a storekeeper named Llngard essayed to cross the Pukuranga river on horeebaok, but owing to the floods from the recent rains he was swept off hia horsa and drowned. The prisoners pleaded guilty to the latter charge, and were fined 40a and cost, making good the damage ; or, m default 14 days' hard labor.
