W. Leadley, Chairman of ratepayers! meeting at Wakannl, enclosing resolutions passed at that meeting asking the County 'and Board Board Engineers to report * o protection of river. — The Board instructed the Surveyor to give asilstanoe la the matter. ; BtTRVEYOK'B REPORT, The Surveyor, reported as follows :— (I),— Biyer Boad : Since last meeting serious encroachment of the- river has taken place on this road a few chains below the bulwark, and ohanoes of restoring oqmmuni* cation on this road now seem hopejegf, aft tba work must neede be one of magnitude, and beyond the ordinary, resources of this' Board. (2).— Wilson's Boad,- Seaside BoWd, Shipka Pass Boad and McQuire's ßoad:. Considerable damage has been done to these roads by the last flood in' the river mentioned above. We at once put the maintenance man on with assistance, and had the worst plaoes repaired. Wilson's road has had a considerable quantity of shingle washed off it, but we suppose m the present state of affairs with regard to the river, it would be inadvisable to take any steps to ra-metal. (3).— Gibson's Boad : Inspection has been made of this road with a view to relieve the water on private land, complained of at last meeting. The reason of water not getting properly away is not bo much the fault of the culvert, but is owing to the gully on private property being ploughed m. The only way to relieve this would be to widen and deepen the ditch", but it should be done the whole length of the road, and we see no reason why ocoupiers should not be allowed to do this. (4).— Outfall Beach Boad : The oleaning out of drain authorised at last meeting has been tendered for and the work completed. (s).— Station Boad : We found that the present pipes on this road, owing to their smallness, were insufficient to' oarry th* water off, and bo we procured another set. (6).— Boads m No. 3 Ward : Several roads m this Ward require tussooks taken off tha oentre. If this were done soon it would take the traffic and so relieve the sides, whioh are becoming bad. Tkje ones we reoommend -are part of Winter's' Boad, Seafceld Boad, Buckley's Boad,' Boundary Boad, and Bule'fl Boad. We consider also that the lower portion of Winter's Boad should be formed, as there is, if anything, more traffic on this portion than the other whioh has been formed some time. . (7).— Butteriok's Boad and Storm Drain : We have inspected this Coad and the route asked for by petitioners for a storm drain. The road does not seem to have suffered at all from storm water ; no soouring or damage has tsken place. The drain asked for would be about 30 chains long and would require two conorete falls, rough estimated coat, £40. We have not taken levels, but there is very little doubt considerable cutting would have to be made to insure fall. (B).— The maintenance man's diary lies oil the table. Clause 6.— Resolved to have the work recommended done, tenders for tussook clearing to be m by 20th Inst and for formation by next meeting: The remainder of the report was adopted. MISCELLANEOUS. It was deolded to bow gross seed on the Falrfield road lately formed ; To have footbridge put on Leatham'a road and Dromore road; To write to County Oounuil Engineer re bad state of water race down Wilson's road and damage it is doing where it falls over the terrace at Doak'a. .' ' . HATES. It was resolved at next meeting to jtrike a separate rate of & of a penny In he £ In No 2 Ward, and £ of a peDny m So 3 Ward, payable m one sum on Jotober Ist; NEW WARD.
