FIVE MILLIONS STERLING OF HIDDEN TREASURE.

The Calcutta correcpondent of "The Times " writes :—" Mr Westfand, aotingsecretary of the Financial Department, lately TisUed Gwalior to make arrangements for taking over three and a-half orores cf rupees, which the Regency is lending to the Indian Government. He found that treasure *o the extent of over £5,000,000 sterling had been accumulated In pita and wells sunk iv the floors of vaults la the Palace Zenana. The vaults are situate par ially underground, daylight being admitted through -narrow oponirga m the walls. After removing the earthto ft depth of 6ft, the workmen unearthed a smooth, lev#l pavement of large flagstones When these ware lifted they came upon a squaro pit filledJto the brim with glittering silver.
