I The insurance has not yet been ascertained. Anticipated Strike. Another couflict has arisen between the Northern Steanißbip Company and the Seamen'a Union. The Company gave Dotlce of reductions of wages and no overtime to bo paid for, and* the men on board the Wellington having refused to agree received notice to leave, The Seamen's Union reaolved to fight the Company and a literal strike Is anticipated. Burglary. PaLMRRSTON JNORTH, July 19. A daring burglary was committed at Renton's Royal Hotel, Palmeraton, between mid-night and e(& this morning, wh,eu an iron cafe wbb bodily removed from the bar into the middle of the road and the contents attracted; A small cash bos oontaiuing about £90 m notes, waa taken, but four watches and two cheques were left behind. Suspicion h<s fallen on Wo men who were seen about the hotel yesterday and who have dia« appeared . impiortant to Shippers. Wellikgton, July 19. In theJSapreme Court this morning a saae waa tried of considerable Import»noe. Tbia was Staples v Joseph and other owners of the Tul, plalra £%$ for value of goods lost when the steamer was wrecked at Wellington Heads In November last. There are other similar claims, and this ia a test case. It is the first instance of the kind m New Zealand, where responsibility has Bought to be fixed on owners of wrecked vessels. After taking evidence of experts m navigation the Court decided m favor of the plaintiff for the full amount on the ground of negligent navigation having led to the loss of the vessel.
