The Ashburton Guardian. Magna est Veritas et Prævalebit. MONDAY, JULY 18, 1887. REGISTER ! REGISTER !
Once tnore we call the earnest attention of our readers to make sttre that they will be m a position to exercise the privileges of electors at the forthcoming elections. We have already taken steps to inform those who, having already sent m claims, are, for various reasons, required to register afresh, and if these take the necessary measures to secure the placing ol fbeir names on the roll, it remains only for thoss to register who have hitherto never registered at all, to ensure that everyone m the district, who is possessed of the requisite qualification, will be m a position to cast his vote when polling day comes. And let it be remembered thut there is now no time to lose. Official intimation of the dissolution of Parliament reached the Registration Officers throughout the colonyonFriday night, 15th inst., and the thirty days allowed them for compiling the roll count from that day. But as names cannot by law be placed on the roll until fifteen days after receipt of claims this fifteen days must be deducted from the tinny. N»w oauuiiDg from the 1 6th inst. (Saturday), thirty days brings us to the 15th August, but as the roll must be completed on that day, and as no names can be placed thereon which have been sent m less than fifteen days prior thereto, it follows that the last day of July is the very latest opportunity for registration. Rather, the day before that, for the 31st July is a Sunday, and therefore a dies non. Consequently, Saturday Week, July 30, will see the door closed against applicants for the privileges of electors. Those who have not registered as yet, but mean to do so, should therefore bestir themselves at once, as there are Only Eleven Days (omitting Sunday) after 10-day, on which the right to vote at the forthcoming elections can be secured.
