THE SALMON STORY.

TO THK EDITOB. Sib, —ln your issue of the 6th met I notice an article under the heading of "An Amusing Story" copied from an English paper, which I consider a reflection upon the body of Christians referred to if allowed to go uncontradicted. Tbe report waj contradicted at once where it first originated. The following appeared m the English " Baptist" of May 13th, 1887:—"Wa are assured by more than one correspondent that the story sent us last week from Montgomeryshire, purporting to represent" A Scene at a River Baptism," was entirely untrue. This we are glad to hear, and to peruse official contradictions m the Herefordshire Press sent by the pastor concerned. It seems a melancholy comment upon the state of mind of the person who claims to be the author of such a fabrication. His name is not worth mentioning." It is strange how quick news vendors are to reprint any reports that tend to ridicule religious matters, and then to lament the larrikin element which these reports undoubtedly foster. I would not have troubled you to correct the "story " had there not been others m this district who hail from the same locality as myself. Apologising for troubling yon, I am, etc. LIiANBADEBK. [We think our correspondent is unduly sensitive. Had the story been true m all its particulars, we fail to see that it would have thrown any discredit upon the Baptist Church ; and evidently that view was taken by the denominational organ which gave publicity to it as well as the subsequent contradiction. — Ed]
