ELECTION GOSSIP
(From oub Exchanges.) It is said to ba probable that Mr N. A. Amen will come forward for Akaroa as a supporter of Major -Atkinson and Sir John Hall- / Major Harris, who is out for Franklin South, received a vote, of confidence at a mealing at Pukekohe. Mr Morrison, one of the candidates for Auckland^ West, has announced himself hi favor of retrenchment, the abolition of the Legislative Council, or at least a redaction of the-nomber of members to 20, wiitifitfb honorarium ; and the reduction of the number of Ministers to foor. He wu opposed to plural voting, and ad* roeated the encouragement of local (oduitriei and the settlement cf the people i upon the land. Mr M'Mordo, a candidate for Rodney, addressed a meeting at Puboi on Jane 28, and laid he advocated rigorous retrenchment, the sale of all railways throughout the colony to a syndicate, and looal option. He received a vote of thanks at the close of hia address. Mr J. A. Connell addressed the Eden electors to-night, the meeting being one of the rowdieit held m Auckland for some time, tbe epeakt>r being constantly interrupted. He declared himself m favor of sweeping away the Boards of Edaca* tion, raising the {school »ge to seven, and advocated the introduction of the Bible into schools. He thought the village Battlements expenditure unconstitutional and wrong, and wonld not favor the reduction of the number cf the House to 50. He declared that he was a follower of M*jor Atkiason, and received a vote of thinks at the termination of the ad*^re«. Mr Seymour George has announced himself & candidate for Parnell. A cable has just been received from Mr Vesey Stewart to the effeot that he h>s left London, for New Zealand, and will contest the Tauranga seat. Mr Menteath, member for Inangahua, bu definitely deolded not to seek re-elec-tion far that constituency. L good deal ef regret iff felt. Mr William Tbomsor, of Green Island, •ontests the Taierl seat. Mr F. S. Canning is out for the new electorate of Waiksia.
