A MADMAN AT BAY.
Gotenbarg, the seoond largest town m Sweden, has been passing through n strange experience. It seems that lately a policeman waß requested by' some occupants of a house let out m flits to help them to get to their roon_B, m a Mr • Wetterlind, occupying apartments m the house, had barricaded the stairs. The policeman asked Mr Wetterlind to come down and go to a doctor's, tut the only reply was a .hot. Assistance was obtained, nnd the aid of the military called m, with the result Ih.t two men were shot and several wounded. On fc^e 22nd Wetterlind was .till m po.Beaaian < f the houae. Be is armed with four r.'fljs and three revolvers, and is believed. (o have a large, supply of gunpowder and dynamite, with which he threatens to blow up the town should any further attempt be made to capture him. A large crowd of seme 200.000 people hare been drawn to the place and the heights overlooking the town. The Lord Lieutenant and the ohief of the police are there night and day, but seem afraid to make any attempt to capture him, evidently expecting to Btarve him out. The inhabitants are m a stats of terror, and it is reported m the papera tbat tho King is very angry at the apathy shown by the authorities.
