DISASTROUS EXPERIENCE OF AN AMERICAN TITLE HUNTER.
One of the latest sensations m Paris, according to a story published In a French newspaper, concerns 8, yonng American lady whose name is not given, but who may be recognised by the alleged faots of her misadventure. It appears that she wanted very much to become a countoßß or baroness, and being immensely wealthy, m order to secure such a title, ■he commissioned one of her friends, who wa» going abroad, to find her some old representative of the nobility who would be willing to exchange his coronet and tiastle for a comfortable bank account and ira aoßurad income. Not long ago the irlend wrote back that she had just the man right nnder her thumb. He was a count of a most aristocratic family, whoao name figured m the Hall of the Crusaders at Versailles. The American lady made ■II haste to get to Paris, and m due time wai presented to the oount. They were mutually satisfied, and an engagement foltowed with preparations for a speedy marrlagp. The oount m a few. days, representing that he was being pressed by his creditor*, asked his futare bride to let him have 200,000 francs, m order to latiofy them and square upahfer gambling debts. The sum was tamed over to him In less than twenty- four hours, but on the lame day the count bad pooketed the money he disappeared, and has not been nan nlnoe. Wh»fc has become of him no one known, and the only thing that hat been learned is that, instead of being a count, the man is only an ordinary adventurer and confidence operator, who had Imposed himself upon the oreduloas Americans as the Qonnt de Roohebrune. The lady, who left Paris on account of the scandal, now tows, though rather late In the day, it mast be confessed, that she will never marry for a title. — N. Y. Graphic.
