CLOSING SUNDAY THEATRES.
Sydney, June 12. A deputation of clergymen waited on Sir H. Parkes yesterday and requested him to stop Sunday amusements. Id consequence orders were given last night for the theatres to be closed tonight, great excitement being caused thereby. A largely attended open-air meeting was held to protest against the action of the authorities m closing places of amusement. It is understood the Premier has taken this action under the Act for the regulation of places of amusement, which empowers him to close such places if a written application has not been made.
