ALDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET

I There waa a large attendance at the "Addlngton Saleyardß yesterday, but business waa not particularly active. Cattle. — &. large number o! fat cattle 'ime forward, but the demand waa extremely apathetic, and n fall of 5a to 10a a head from hut week's values haa to be quoted, while a large proportion left the yards unsold . This must be put down as one of the worst markets ever Been here. The qualiLy wa3 very irregular, comprising Borne very good betf, and a great deal of irul fljrent. Prime beef fetbhed no more lhan l7s per 3001 b, and lower qnalttioa down to almost nominal rates. The Ghatmoaß cittls, ani some steers from the Amur!, m Meisrs Mileß and Go's hands, were the best lines In the yards, but the price offered did not nearly rejoh owners' lde^" 1 , anl thoy wore numbered among the unsold lots. Messrs H. Matson and Oo boM a prime line of steers at £5 7b 6d to £6 a head, and a nice line of heifera at a corresponding value. The ordinary run of the market waa £3 5* to £5 17a 6d for heifere, and £4 2j 6d to £7 for Bteers, For Btore oattle there wai very little demand, but a few good linea found purohj :ers at a slight improvement on recent rater Measss H. Matson and Go sold for Mr A, Grant. 36 head 15 to ]8 months, mostly steers, 31b to 45 j ; Mr W. Homer, 22jj bead calves and yearlings 9j to 28s. Measrs Bennetts Bros sold a lioe of SO yearlings, mixed sexes, at 27s 6d. Dairy stock of desirable qaality sold readily at late rates, gbut old and inferior oorvs are hardly saleable at any price, Sheep. — A fall average anpply wai penned, but there wa3 hrtdly a firstolass line of crossbred wethers — "freezer a" — In the market'; the qaality all round was extremely poor. Me 0. EnSoe efiily topped the market with oronbred* of capital quality and w>i;bt; aid Messrs Gillinghara Bros, 'and Messrs Gunn Bro?, also sent m well^i'azad drafts. Recent value 3 were firm'y upheld, atid frequently exceeded, for every description except heavy ewes of middling and coarae quality, whioh did not meet with good competition. The best crossbred wethers c ">ld at 9 < to 13s, two tooth 7b to 9a, ewes 7a to 10a, merino wethers 4s to 7s 63. Mutton may be qucted at fully &d per lb for prime cross-bred, and H {to If i for middling and merino, Store sheep sold well at full prices, farmers who have turnips being the chief buyers. The principal transactions were — 2-toothß croesbred wethers at 4s 7d to 43 9d ; another line at 53 101 to 6s ; ewes 53 6d ; 4CO 2, 4, and 6-tooth mixed orossbreda at 4a 4d to 4i 91; oro3Sbred ewea m lamb at 5s lOi ; . 107 marino ewes m lamb at 3s ; 793 merino ewes (boiler B ) at 2s 9d. Pigs — The market presented no change from last week, except that offal-fed pigs were lower m price, and asemc \ to be avoided by ourero. Faiinera' prime bacon pl«?a, desirable weights, sold at the rate of 3d to 3|d par lb ; butchers' and secondary qaality, 2£d to 2|d per lb. Porkors sold at late rates. ■
