CAPTAIN COTTON V, SCOTT.
The walking match between Captain Oovtou and Joseph Scott, the well-known pedestrian, was concluded at Ohriatcharch on Saturday, the Captain being victorious by nearly two miles. The '• Press " gives the appended distano6B at each hour since 4 a.m. on Saturday : —
At the conclusion, Mr T. Aoland made a few remarks, m the course of which he Bald that the walking had been as fair as had been seen m the world— [upplauae] — and complimented the men on their performance. He called for cheers for Captain Cotton and Jjo Scott, which were lustily giveui Mr 0, Olarke said they could not let Scott go away without miking him a present, and he wished to be nllowed to subscribe five guineas to it. [A.pplauae.l Mr McGratu, Scctt'a trainer, thanked the audience for its attendance, and said . that Scott was not m the bast of fettle, or he would have won. He was prepared to walk the Captain m a week for any reasonable sum ho might name. [Applause and biases.] After Scott had responded to calls, the proceedings closed.
