A THREAT.
Constantinople, May 26
The Ottoman Porte has refused the demands of the Cretan inhabitants, and threatens to proclaim martial law throughout the Island unless these are at once withdrawn. The great European Powers are, however, dissuading Turkey from carrying out the threat.
