THE RECENT WRECKS.
Wellington, May 27. The enquiry into the wreck of the Go-Ahead was held to-day. No fresh partloulars were elicited. Captain Plumley deposed that he could not account for the loan of the vessel, unless -that owing to the thick weathet the ateamer had drifted into Bhore beyond the calculations he had allowed: The Court considered the csptaln blameftble on theso grounds — That he had been guilty of negligent navigation m attempting to round the Cape m. the weather that prevailed, and that he had not acted prudently m trying to cut the headland so fine. Tho judgment of the Court was that the Captain's certificate be suspended lor taree months, and that he pay the oosts of the enquiry.
Kapier, May 27. One of the crew of tho ship Northumberland was sentenced to four montha' imprisonment for sticking up a child, nod robbing her of a retioclo containing 80j. Tho Court of enquiry into tho wreck of the Northumberland delivered the following judgment, whioh was unanimous:—"That overy fcff-rt was made by the captain, officers and crew of the ship to save the said ship and cargo, and that no blame whatever attaohed to the captain, officers and crew. Tho Harbormaster and Pilot used all usual precautions, and that no blame is therefore attached to him, and that ha made every endeavor to reach the ship when she was m danger on the 10;h of May, 1887. I rccommoad that the weather forecast be telegraphed direct to the Harbormaster and Pilot, and tbat he be instructed by the Harbor Board to oom» raunicato the same to tho masters of ships, and If necessary to signal to the masters of ships m the roadstead whin there is no other means of oomraunioatlng the information. lam of opinion that the Harbormaster should be provided with the latest improved rocket life-saving apparatus, and that occasional praefcloa bo made with the same."
