Correspondence haa been laid on the table of tba House of Representativer m reference to the supply of tinned and frozen meat to the Imperial troops m England. Bir Dillon B.eU has been m correspondence with the Admiralty and War Office en tho subjaot, and the Admiralty state tl at salt beef from New Zsaland wn tried, but the result was not satisfactory, inasmuch as two samples wero condemned as unfit for human food and sold to soap-boilers. New Zealand woods are unfit for being used for salt meat casks, and Ijsldes, an attempt to obtain tenders at Danedln, Chrietchuroh and Napier, failed. It appears the War Office require only about 60,0001 bof oanned meat, and at present they reoeiye this at a prloa under 50s f3r owt, the cor? tractors guaranteeing the meat to keep Bound for two yeara. A» to the matter of supplying the War Office with frozen mntton, it appears that a Btrong prejudice exists against its use, although it ia oerlain that large quantities are actually supplied ; bat the War Offioe will probably have this latter matter arranged. The consumption of preserved beef m the navy (a only #)O,pOOlbs, and of mutton 150,0001138 or lew than the 2b'oth part of theannn^l importation of frozen Bheep. The whole tenor of the correspondence shows that the matter is one whioh most bo left tp private enterprise,
