INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

TO THE SDIIOB. Sir,— lt will, no doubt, be In your recollection, that some few years ago, we had, ln this town, an Industrial Association, the object of which, was to promote and aid In the establishment of looal In-, dustrles m the oounty and town of Ashburton, This Association A was the means of doing a large amount of permanent good to the district. It was at its meetings that the formation of a Woollen Manufaotur--1 ing Company was first spoken of, whioh 1 has resulted m the ereotion of the present factory on the Alford Forest Road, to the great benefit of the dlstriot generally. Other projects were dlsouseeJ, but were ' not, owing to the oollapae of the Association brought to a successful Issue. In my opinion the time has now arrived when this Association should be revived; the long winter evenings areoomlng, m whloh the meetings could be held, and aB there can be dcubt that the establishment of local Industries and manufactures tends largely to inorease the prosperity of the oounty, I would suggest that those gentle--1 men who are In favor of the Association being again established, should call a meeting by advertisement to consider what s'eps should be taken. Yours, eto., Quifugit molam, fugitfarinam. Ashburton, May 21, 1887.
