The' new badges procured from Messrs Hobson and Sons, London, for the South Canterbury Rifle Volunteers have now arrived, and Captain Dolman has lost no time m getting the Ashburton Rifles supplied with them. The helmet plate is an eight-pointed star, bearing the Canterbury arms, with the name of the battalion m a oirole, within a laurel wreath. A handsome crown, relieved with cardinal velvet, surmounts the plate, and the motto " Ready " is borne on gilt soroll at its foot. Tho cap badges are the same, but on a Bmaller soale, and the collar badge consists of the Canterbury arms. The effeot is good, and the badges will much improve the appearance of the South Canterbury battalion.
