At the City Court the licensee of the Ayrihire Hotel, Kensington, was charged with a breaoh of the Licensing Aot, It appeared his wife served liquor to a man whom ehe knew to be a near resident though he declared that he had travelled over three miles that day. The man never drank nor paid for his beer through the police interfering. He was fined 5i for falsely representing himself as • traveller, and the landlord, £10 theMagUtrate holding that it was the duty of the ' lioensoe to make reasonable enquiries. •
