MUjor Steward his induced the Premier to draft a clause to meet the difficulty, whHoh provides that two-thirds of the ratepayers within tin district proposed to be constituted may petition to be created a separate district. Ktr Tole, who has oharge of the Counties Amendment Bill, has accepted the clause which will m due course be added. Mr Ivesa presented a petition to the Minister of Linda to-day from the village settlers near the cemetery, \ehburton, asking the (lovermnont to assist them m get ting a branoh raca through the settlement Mr W. 0. Walker, the County Chairman, w*a proßent, and m the course of the discussion said that his only fear was that if the request were granted it would reduce the Bupply to others. Mr Ivobb pointed ont that the water would be conducted through the village settlers land into the county's main race. Little or no loss of water would ensue. The Minister of Lands promised to defray one half tin cost and recommended the petitioners to apply again to the County Council for permission. Mr Walker promised to aid the petitioners without causing Inconvenienca or Id jury to others.
