In the House of Commons, Mr Gladstone, m moving that the question of the action of "The Times" m charging Mr Dillon with falsehood, etc., be referred to a Select Committee, contended that an official prosecution could alone be of a collusive character, and would, therefore, prove futile. London, May 7. In the House of Commons last night the division was taken on Mr Gladstone's motion that a Select Committee be appointed to consider the question whether certain articles m "The Times," charging Mr Dillon with falsehood, were a breach of privilege. The House rejected the motion by 217 to 233. An amendment moved by Sir Edward Clarke, Solicitor-General, declining to treat the article as a breach of privilege, was adopted.
