A DISASTROUS HURRICANE
LATER ACCOUNTS. APPALLING LOSS OF LTFr. (Received Ajril TO. 2 p.ra ) Mblbou. nb, Apiil 30 The latest accounts received from Perth, Western Australia, regarding the disaster to the pearling fleet are of a somewhat cobfliciing character. The fleet is reported to have been 250 nvles to the north-east of Kossack when the hurricane occurred, mubt of the boats being laden with sheik The master of Ihe " Australian " reports that 48 of the craft were m GomvJon Bay, many of them being serionsly damaged. He supplied the crews with food, and he reports that many bodies were seen floating about m the vicinity. The total number of boats lost is estimated at 40, and 550 men are missing. It is known that 37 Malays have been drowned. Sydney, April 30 Accounts received from Wesiern Australia ot the shipping disaster state that 6 schooners and 50 luggers, representing 300 lives, have been lost. Each of the luggers contained six men. It is considered probable that many ot the boats are blown out to sea. Of the entire fleet 56 vessels were owned by Sydney firms.
