DISCOVERY OF TREASURE IN THE NEW HEBRIDES
A discovery of groi.t interest, and which may poisib'y eervo to throw some light upon Borne of the doings of those pirates who used to haunt the Indian and China teas m days gone by has lately come to light In the neighborhood of the French settlements of New Caledonia (says the "Auckland «tar" of the 13th mat). Captain M'Oloud, who owns several of the Islands In the New Hebrides group, having been a resident there for a number of years, dieoovered upon the white Bandy beaoh of the Island of Mallloollo (about long. 168 E., lat , 15 S.) amongst the rabbit workings a few silver coins. Searching for more, he discovered a oon■lderable number, and from Bigns around he decided that the neighboring sea was either yielding up the treasure of a Spaniard or Portuguese vessel wreoked near by, or that treasure bad been hidden upon the beaoh. Not having applianoes at hand he left the island for Sydney, where he has obtained proper diving and other apparatus to be need m the Interestgearon. The well-known "Vagabond" (Mr Julian Thomas, of the " Melbourne Argus") accompanies Captain M'Cloud baok to the Island.
