ATROCITIES AT PORTO NOVO.
News haa been received at Lagos from the French ootiJement of Porto Novo of some horrible atrocities committed by I King Tofa, the reigning monarch there. A princo ard his son having been aooueed lof posaeteing poisonß with which they intended to kill the king, were seized, and by order of the king their jaws were broken and their tongue* out oat, and they were afterwards hanged. Not very long ago two boyß, eonß of another pripoe, were murdered m the presence of their mo*her and aiater. Both of the latter are otftted to be now m prison, Previous to this another terrible atrocity wbb committed on two other subjeots, a man and a woman. f lhe tor'ure went on for four dcyß, during which t.me each had an eye put out, the woman was scalped, and the uian otherwise Hltreated. Their booiea wore afterwarde cut with knives, salt beiDg put into tho wounds, and finally dry graaH was tied round then? , and then oiled and Bet on fire. It is alao stated that when the news of the death of one of Lagos Govornment Oomtnlsßlonerß reached King Tofa he ordered guuß to be fired to celebrate the event,
