HARVEST THANKSGIVING SERVICE.
The annual Harvest Thanksgiving Service took plnoe last evening m St Stephen's Church There was a large congregation, though not so large, perhaps, as would have been the case had not the church offioara of Tlnwald Beleoted the evening for the winding up of their baziar. A few alterations changtd the character of the Easter decorations and •nade them appropriate to the harvest teaßon, Off.<rings of very fine apples, pears, plums, grapes, etc, had been made, and these after Sunday will be given to the Hospital and Old Men's Home. The mus'cil portion of the service was of a ioraewhat festival charaoter, and the ohoir sung with precision and feeling a oew and very beautiful anthem by Dr Stainer, organist of St Paul's, London. In the hymns, the organ was strengthened by tht accompaniment of a few brass instruments. An excellent sermon waa provided by the J*ev J. Ohtffers We!sh Incumbent of F.ndal, Christchuroh. from John XII 24--"Exc9pt a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die It *bideth aloDe, but if it die, it bringeth forth much froit."
