The volunteer encampment at Fareora broke up yesterday after a very successful sham fight. The Ashbarton corps returned home by a speoial train, vrbioh reached here about 9.30 p.m. At the R.M. Court this morning, before Mr T. Bullook, J.P., and Mr 0. R. Blakeston, J.P., a first offender for drunkenness was fined 5i and oosts. James Williams, alias O'Brien, for a similar offenoe, was mulcted m a like penalty. Lawrenca Butler, charged with disorderly conduct, was dismissed with a caution. An old woman, who bad been found drunk m East- street on the 11th inßt., was oonvioted and ordered to be discharged when m a fit state. Henry Charles Ford was fined 10s and costs for drunkenness. A company has been formed to dredge the Carson river, m Nevada, for quicksilver and amalgam. Eighteen miles of river have been located. It is estimated that ten per oent of the bullion product of the Oomstook mines has flowed as tailings into the Carson river and that at least 40,000,000d01s will be recovered. The Norwegian barque Modum, Captain Peterson, recently arrived at New York from Freybentos, Uruguay, South America, with a oargo of meat meal. This is the first cargo of suoh meal that has arrived at that port* It is dried beef ground m mills made for the purpose, and will be used m th« manufacture of beef extraot.
