Killed by a Bicycle. Auckland, April 12. A boy, A, W. He had his leg broken and sustained internal injuries, from which he died early this morning. Cricket. Captain McDonald haa to-day, through fall lolioltor, served Lieut. -Colonel MoMahon with notice of aetlon for £1000 damages for Illegal arrest. The ground of action is that No. 3 Battalion had no legal existence, and Lieut. -Colonel MoMahon bad no power to order the arrest. Alleged AssaultMew Plymouth, April 12. Five men belonging to the steamer St. EUda, named Carroll, Brown, Oalder, Olien and Jensen, have been arrested for brutally assaulting Jaraoa Lake at the Motnroa Hotel last night. Lake is In a precarious condition In the hospital. The men were brought np and remanded till two o'olook. Earthquake. ♦ JNaphb, April 12. There was a smart shook of earthquake at four o'olook this morning, lasting if teen seconds. Fire. A small fire occurred In a bed manufsotory this morning. The same manufacturer had a fire m his premises some weeks ago. In neither case was he insnred. The Bobbery on Board the Arawa. Wellington, April 12. The robbery on board the Arawa was committed on Mrs B. Elaer, a second saloon passenger from the Cape to Melbourne. The robbery took place between 8 and 9 at. night when within five daye,' Bail of Tasmania, Mrs Elser was absent from the room at the time, and had left tho key m her trunk. The property taken was a draft for £45 15s lOd m gold, diamond earrings of the value of £80, and a quantity of other jewellery, consisting of bracelets, rings, lockets, chains, eto. The latter are believed to be wedding presents, nnd therefore of coneiderable value. At Hobart the (stewards and a number of passengers were searched, but no trace was discovered, and no ona was arrested. There is no clue to the perpetrator of the robbery. -■ •■ Volunteer Matters.
