The once Commissioners of Property Tax v. Brown, for the reoovery of rates levied under the District Railway Purchasing Act, and whioh was to have been heard at Rakaia to-day, has been settled out of Court. To-morrow being Good Friday, there will be divine servioe m St. Stephen's Ohuroh at 11 o'olook m the morning, and at 7 o'clook m the evening. Collections will be made on behalf of the Sunday School. There will be also a children's service at 3 p.m., the collection at whioh will be for the sick and needy.

The installation of Worshipful Master and the investiture of officers of the South Bakaia Lodge, 1857, E.G., took place m the Masonic Hall, Bakaia, last evening. There was a large attendance of visiting brethren, many lodges being represented, Ashburton especially turning up m strong foroe. The ceremony was conducted by D.D.G.M. Bro Deamer, assisted by Grand Lodge Officers Bros Hardy, Sandstein, Lyttleton, and Bawtell. The following offioers were inducted into office :— BroL. Oxley, W.M. ; Bro Dixon, 1.P.M.; Bro 0. Hugonin, S.W.; Bro W. Midgeley, J.W. ; Bro J. Tomer, S.D. ; Bro H. Childs, J.D. Treasurer, Bro D. G. Holmea j Seoretary, P.M. Bro Hardy ; Bro A. J. Howell, J.G.; and Bro W. Kemble, tyler. Apologies were read from a number of brethren unable to be present. The I musical portion of the ceremony was impressively rendered by an effioient choir under the leadership of visiting Bro. Kneen, who kindly undertook the duty. After the installation an adjournment was made to the refeotory where light refreshment was provided, and the following loyal, masonic, and patriotio toasts were duly honored ;—" The Queen and Craft," "H.R.H. the Prinoe of Wales, M.W. Grand Master of England," ••The Grand Masters of Scotland and Ireland," "The D.G.M. of Canterbury," " The W.M. Elect," "The 1.P.M.," "Past Masters," "Offioers, Past and Present," "Sister Lodges and Viiiting Brethren, 1 ' " The Ladies," " The Stewards," and " The Tyler's Toaßt." The programme waa varied by musical selections rendered by several ot the brethren visiting and otherwise, and an entereßting and instructive evening was spent.
