A SUICIDAL COMPACT
A strange compact to commit Ruioidu and die together was disclosed at tho Nottingham ADii&es, when J.hn Jeasop, »g«d 22, a laborer, was indicted for the wilful murder of John Allcook on J.ioimry 11 The parties woro oompHiit'na out f work, and they agreed to commit •< lmdo together. For that purpose they bought a large quanli y of laudanum m email portions. Late at night they retired to a bam at Gedling, aod eaoh drank a capful, the prisoner having the first dose, Deceased went .to sleep, never recovered coneolousaeßß, and died tho following af.ernoon. Jessop was very ill, and had to keep m bed for come days. The defence wai that there was no mutual agreement to co ximit Bnioidn, and that the deceased was the originator of the sohome. The jury found the prisoner tuilty, with a rf commendation to moroy. He was sentenced to doath, the jndcjo saying that he thoroughly agreed viuli the rooommendation.
