Anderson applied for a right of way at the back of the Town Hall. The Mayor was authorised to confer with the Borough Solicitor and Engineer; and with power to grant the application m case of its being m order, MILL RA'JE Crs Williamson and Friedlander were appointed a committee to confer with a c unmittee of the County Council m regard to the maintenance of the mill race. THE UNEMPLOYED. Or Harrison asked the Mayor if he had aDy information with regard to a number of the Christ church unemployed who bad been sent *jp to work on the Mount Somero Railway extension There were a number of men, ratepayers, who were out of employment m Ashburton, and he waß of opinion that when public work was provided m a district men residing m the district were entitled to take prece donee m the matter of being given em* pl»yment on s»ch work. The Mayor said that he had no information m regard to the matter. He thought tho pn-per course woud be .for Ge Harrison to bring forward a motion on the subject when the proper time came, no ads. The question of attending to the road leading to tbe Hospital was referred to the Works Committee. * Or Harrison asked if any steps were contemplated to be taken towards levelling portion of Oaaa itreet. — The Chairman of the Works Committee said the matter was under consideration.
