DISSATISFIED.
As Mr Bard ware, of the well-known firm of Hardware and Toole, was writ* ing m hin private office, he was waited apnn by a committee of his employees, who told him that thpy wore dissatisfied, and bad decided to strike unless certain demands were complied with. " What's the matter ?" asked Mr Hardware. " Aren't you getting pay enough ?" " Ob, the pay is all rifi^it," replied the spokesman. "Too many hoars of work?" "No. Hours are all right.' "Well, what's the matter then?" "Well, you see, we go to work about ? o'clook" "Yes, is it too early?" " No, but about 9 o'clopjj|w» get tbiretyj and we want a half houijjjjpff to get tome beer.? " Half an hour wems rather a long time." "Perhaps ;l*bjut one can't drink five or cix glasses . oi beer m, a minute." "Well, I'll allow it. I don't want to have any troublo with my em* ployees. Anything more?" " A trifle. You see, about 11 o'clock we get thirsty again." "I'll give you another half hour then. Now, go about your work." The men left, but within an hour th^y came round again, threatening to "strike.. "What's the matter now?" asked Mr Hurdware, "Well, air," said the spokesman, "we need some more beer at 2 o'clock" " R ght j take: it" "And— and " " Well- well— what now?" " vv hy, you Bee, sir, by tbat time we'll be 80 drunk that we can't work any more, so we want to be let off then"" " Look here," exclaimed the proprietor, straight* ening up ; • if 1 have the bell rung from the bonrhouee ncrosa the waj, will you drop m here and work between drinks ?
