The following gom, m its way, is related of a Melbourne officer of police, who fs said to be a moat amusing character When he holds the " fluire of the Coort" 1 c n- ver fails to prove his superiority, aa the following instance will show *'Ay yer plaiza, yer Worchipß, as I was going along my hate last night, about two o'clock this marnin' I saw the prisoner here lying on the broad ay his back m the gutther dead drunk and epachcleaa, and m a foithen attidude, and sthatiug the word " dhrunk " ia a loud tone of voice, ' Get up out of that,' sayß I. He did not nnewer, but merely shated the word 'dhrunk.' ' G.t up out of that.' says I again, 'or I will knock you r"own ' Then with great difficulty I surrounded him, and bore him off to th« watch-hduie. " The prisoner got seven days.
