DISCOURAGING LITIGATION.
Wellington, March 18. The Colonial Secretary intends to introduce into the Legislative Ooanoil early m the coming session a Bill providing that tradesmen's accounts under £20 for goods sold and delivered cannot be recovered m a Resident Magistrate's Ooart. This step Is to be taken, as the Government consider that the Magistrates' Courts throughout the colony are being used simply as machinery for co leoting debts. From a return they have had prepared, It appears that the number of eummorißts issued laat year m tha colony by Magistrates' Courts for eurns o^dor £20 wai 20,380 ; for sums ranging £20 to £50 the number was 2325; and. from £50 upwards, 674 Should the Bill become law, it is expeoted that a great saving will be made m working the Courts.
