CORN EXCHANGE
The following is the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, 18th Imt :— There is no improvement to note m the grain markots. Shipping orders are not plentiful, and storage m Lyttelton is becoming limited. The condition has much improved, but still rejections are very common. The best conditioned Tuscan ia being taken up for shipment to London, but other varieties are being held m store or taken into our local mills. Wheat — Tuscan maintains its premier position by fully a penny per bushel, rates for primo beinp 3s 4d to 3s 4£d ; Pearl and Hunter's, 3s 3d to 3s 3£d. Second qiality is not m favor. Many lines are being taken up for chicken wheat at prices varying from 2s 9d to 3s ; broken wheat soils at 2s 6d to 2s Bd, with little offering. Oats— The market has been fairly busy. Considerable sales of heavy short feed have been taken up on the basis of Is 9d f o.b, for shipment to London, Sydney, and the North Island. Tho orders, however, are now pretty well completed, so we may expeot a lull for a week or so Milling lines are scarce, and are well I worth Is lOd for bright, clean, heavy Canadians. The long descriptions are mostly taken up lor local consumption at Is 6d to Is gd.
Beans have but little enquiry. Pe>i8 — Prussian blues are offering at 3s 3d, but buyers are not anxious to speculate m the absence of orders. Feed kinds are worth 2s 7d to 2s 8d for local purposoa.
Grass Seed— This mnrkefc is exceedingly weak. Orders to hand have been all executed, aud holders are not anxious to add to Ihoir present stocks. Prices remain at 2s 3d to "39 for farmers' parcels-^ Cocksfoot is dull, 3sd being the best price, except for machine dressed, which is quoted at s£d to 4d. Dairy Produce — This market shows no improvement Butter is being quoted at from 5d to Ciin small lots. Choese has no outside demand, and prices are nominal at 4d to sd.
