THE END OF THE WORLD IN 1902
(By James Gourtay.) Fanning the argument deduced from pr< pbeoy es qaoted m my previona letter, th»t the year 1902 ia the year of the c d Indloated by the time and times and half » time, and by the 1290 and 1335 daji ol the Vision of Daniel, I weird bow point out that In God's dealings with the Egyptians (see Ez-kiel, Chap. XXX) we find another proof. I refer to the prophecy (f the scattering »nd dispersion of the Egypt Un people. And here note' that before the Lord acquainted Ezekiel (F.e XXXIX, 13) that m bo far ac the with the dire calaraaty which was to fall upon Egypt, He declared to the prophet Egyptian! themselves were conoerned, Be would at th« cud of 40 years gather them from among the people among whom they should be scattered. Now the date of Ssekiel's prophecy as reoorded In the 30th chapter was 572 8.C., and adding to thcie figures the 40 y*ar« during whioh .'the Egyptians were scattered, we have 612. Let this reprexnt a time and 1224 will represent timer. These two sets of figures, viz, 612 + 1224 added t-i 33+33, twice the yearn of oar Saviour's age, again bring out tr c total 1902. Taming next to the Revelations of St John, we find the " Number of the Beast," there given us 666, Let as me this as a key m connection with the history of Mohammed, U c great false prophet, and what do we find 1 Mohammed was born Anno Domini 570, and was 30 years of ag« when he began to teach. Ten (10) years later he beg»n to teach and was twelve (12) years propagating hla doctrine before the Hegira, A. D, 622. Thereafter he con tinned ha mission for ten (10) yearn, rfc.. until AJ>. 632, when he died from poison, it is said administered by a ( Jewel*. Thereafter the Mohammedan dootrine was propagated by thirty-fonr (34);oaliphB, and 632 + 34=6«6, the figure* given In Rev XIII, 18 as tha " Number of the Beast." Now an ancient poem whioh I will subjoin predicts that the Cross shall eubdne the Orescent In 100 je«B, j thrloe doubled, i.c , m 6CO years, and that , prediction seems to fit ia with romarkabln accuracy with the indicative figures of prophecy. As th'ur: tho number of Mohammed 666, added to the number of the Beast, 666, gives 1332 ; add 600 and wa have 1932, from which deduot 30 the years <f Mohammed's age before he began to teach, and 1912 again results. The following are the words of the poem ; referred to : —
Year after year shall roll, Ages o'er ages glide, Before the world's control Shall check the Crescent's pride. : ' Banished from ev'ry place, ''■' Where'er the oceans roar, ' The mighty 'gyptian race ■'•■•""■■ Shall yisit ev'ry shore. :■■ • • : Bat "when the hundredth year ' :••■'■ Shall three times doubled be Then shall the end appear Of all their misery. Then shall the warlike powers . From distant climea return, Egypt again be ours, While Turkish domes shall bum. Again the Christian Cross Shall over Stamboul wave, And ruin weeds and moss '. Mark the last Sultan's grave. V Again Ehall Cbrißlian bells Eing where muezzins cry, When 'croHS the Dardanelles' The Moslem hordes shall fly. So Egypt shall te eurß, . Her tribes return once more, Their flocks and herds to feed, Where their fathers dwelt of yore. When, all our warlike powers From distant dimes return, Then Egypt ah* 11 be ours * While Turkish turrets burn. Passing on now to consider the prophetic numbers given m Revelation Xf., 2 and 3, it will be seen (ver. ,2) that the Holy City is to , be trodden under the feet of the Gentiles for forty-two (42) months. This m f qual to the 12G0 duys rrentioned m veree 3, for 42 x 30 (days) equals 1260. No*', as we have seen, one of the mystic nun bers given to Daniel m the vision was 1290, and I think I can ■how that the 1260 of Bevelations exactly corresponds therewith. The key to the notation is to be found m verses 26 and 27 of; the ninth ihapter of Daniel's pro- • phecy, where we &re told that Messiah shall :■- fee cnt off after threescore and two weeks, . atid that ll in ihe midst of Hit week the • ■■crifice and oblation shall ceafe." Now, 62 full weeks equal 534 days, from which • (to brinj; us to "the midst" of the last W*ek) dehict 4. and we have 430, as . fepreuentiog a time. Thus times will •qtial 860, and 430 plus 860 gives the i.. 1290 of Daniel Now, 1290 divided by ? : the exact number of days m the year (365)
gives aa a n suit 3 years and 6^ months, 'while the 42 months of Kevelationa equals .. 3 yeMB and 6 months. r : Surely all these results must.be more thtn a remarkable Beriea of coincidences, and point to tho conclupion that the time of the end it indeed fixed for the year 1902, or lees than fifteen years from the present date. But it may be objected that this is not possiVe if the Millenium foreto'd m Bevelations is to take place, when, according [to the popular interpretation, Satan is to be bound for a thousand years, and Christ is to live and reign with His people. My answer ia that tho word " ycai" is often used fo* " day," and "day " for "year." As m Daniel the 12-.0 and 1290 days mean years, so also probably the r ' thousand years of Bevelations are to be interpreted as days. The Willonium r ' would thus be bet ! er described as mille
dies, or a thousand days. If it be bo regarded, the time of Our Saviour's dwelling with his people would be reduced to 4 2 yean and nine months. But this again 1 regard as figurative, that is to say, no' as meaning Christ's actual visible presence, but His living and reigning m the hearts of Bis people, and over all the earth ob Prince of Poaco. If, then, 1 read tho prophecy aright, there are to be 2 years and 9 months of Peace before the opening of the Seven Sen's Then, taking the periods of the Seven Seals and Beven Trumpets as each representing a year, we have a total of fourteen years, which, added to 1888, the date of the now next succeeding year again points to 1902 as the year of tho End. The teaching of Holy Writ does not at all warrant the expectation of a thousand years of peace, and looking at tho present state of Europe, when six Great Powers have been for Borne timo past preparing for war, but are apparently held Lack by ' Ih'e Almighty Ruler of Is at ions, dees it not seem that we are now m the period of ' 2 years and 9 months, which will expire before the opening of the First Seal ? It seems to me to ;be so, and if this be the case, we may look for the •pen? ng of the First Peal at the beginning of 1888, and of, the Second Seal, when peace will be taken from the earth, m 1889— a period - of two years and nine months from the present time:
