The Danedln " Herald " writes :— j Things have come to a nice pass m Freetrade New Sooth Wales, The Minister of Works having aßked to be supplied with information as to the number of tradesmen m Sydney who are out of work, stepß were taken to obtain the desired information, and at a meeting at which twenty-four trades were represented the following figures were handed In :— Brick makers, 800; pattern-makers, 70 ; general engineers, 700 ; coachmakera (all branches), 300 ; brioklayeri, 500 ; carpenters, 14.0U ; plasterers, 500 ; ftsnemaaonn, 900 jßlatere, 35 ; painters, 350 ; bakera, 100 ; general smiths, 89 ; iron moulders, 100 ; plumbers, 60 ; book-keepoi a stated at 400. Ten trades have to be added to the l'at. Of general laborers, 3000 were put down as without work, fn add'tlon to 309 brickmakers m search of employment. The rest are only working half time. This gives a total of 8795, which with other trades' returns, will amount m round numbers to 10,0?0 men out of employment m Sydney at the present time.
