THE END OF THE WORLD IN 1902.

TO THE EDITOR. Fir, — Tf you can find space m yon* co'umnw, I should be ghd if you would give publication to the following, which will, I think, proTe of int rest to many of your readers I may say that the subject -■ is 000 to which I hare devoted muobjhra* aud attention, and I feel persuaded' that the conclusion at which I have arrived+is amply supported by the Scirptures.— -I am, etc, Jambs Gourlay. Asaburton, March llth, 1887. fir Isaac Nowton ma^e a great dis-~ co very when he hit upon the laws of attraction and gravitation, but on looking into these I see that they point m one direction, viz , to the ultimate absorption' of the planets : by the sun With its attraction drawing them, and their own gravity impelling them towards it, the question indeed arises, . '.'* Why has' rfot. this occurred ere now?" The Atheiit , cannot an Bwer this, for he believes not m a Power greater than Nature, but as aY humble believer m the Deity I reply that it is because He by whom the heavenly boiies were' created Himself guides them with a hand that cannot err, and that He will nob permit their destruction until the time He himself has set. On looking into my Bible for information as to the design of God, the great Creator, as regards th« duration of His workß as they at presentexist, I had no great difficulty m finding that the Bet time of the End is fixed for the year 1902, and m asking you to publish the results of my enquiry m a» abbreviated form (it would require too great a spice to set oat the. whole argument m derail) I may perhaps be permitted to advance the following as Bufficient reasons for such a publication! viz. : — 1. That none will deny the importance of the subject ' , - " 2. That, although not a few have" attempted to solve the seeming difficulty, thay have all signally failed 3 That we are not prohibited by the Almighty from enquiring into the matter. 4 That He has only withheld the day and the hour. 5 That lie has, by His Prophets; given us sufficient data to enable as to arrive at the information sought, the number of the year of the End. Jn referring to the phopWies relating to this intensely interesting Bubjeot, I will first refer to the Prophet Daniel, because of his high favor with God. as evidenced by the mannor m which he was addressed by the Angel (Chnp. X, .verse 19) viz., " Oh man, greatly beloved," because Oar Saviour quoted him when informing his disciples of the thon approaching destruc--1 ton of Jerusalem by the Roman army under Titti?, and because Daniel is the only prophet who has given the key t« the solution of tho problem sought to be unravelled. . That key will be found m Dan. XCC, 7, whert the Angel is recorded to hive sw>m by Him who liveth for ever that the End Bhall be at the expiry of "a tim% iimts t and an luilf," and to assist DnnUl gives him (see verses 11 and 12) the further numbers of 1335 and 1290. Now, first as to the signification of the figures 1335 Observe that the date of the yenr m which the vision of Daniel occurred was 534 B.C. Tho time fo Christ's Advent was thus 534 yours, «;id an equal time after bis Ascension from the Earth gives another 534 years.

Thus we have a time— s3 i and Umta — 1069, and adding to these figures half a tid e, or 267, nnd the figures which represent the years of Christ's sojourn on earth, 33, we arrive at 1902.

Now as to the other mystic number-* 1290.

Turn to I T Chronicles, 86 Ohap ,18 yer. and it will there be seen that the treasures of the Honse of God were carried to Babylon, and the House of God burned, tho walls of Jerusalem broken down, and her palaces destroyed during the year B.C. 588, say 587£ years before the Advont. Add tho camo number of years after the Ascension and we have 1175. Now, let the years of Christ's sojourn on earth represent a ((me, and we have a time 33, times 66, and half a time 16&, which. figures added to 1175 bring out tho mystic total 12£0 of the vision. Again add to that total the date of the yefcr m which the destruction of the House of God above referred to was foretold, viz., 612 B C, and once more we have the figures 19 2

Passing on to another historical land* mark m connection with the story of God's Chosen People, observe that iht date of Israel's removal was 721 Before Christ. Add to that number tbe same number of yaars after Christ and we have 1442. as representing two Umts of 721 years eaob. add half a time 361, phis the years of Christ's human life 33, as again representing a time, phis 68 as representing two times, and again the figures 1902 appear* I will now give proofs from the Restoration of the House of God, and the Rebuilding of Jerusalem by the commaods of Cyrus and Artaxerxes. The* command of Cyrus was given (see Ezra Chap. I) m the year B.C 536, but the work ceased' in three (3) rears, and was not completed till B.C. 515 Now from 536 deduct 3 and we have 533. To thi« add 515, the dato;;of the completion of the work before Christ, and the same number of years after Christ, (the figures 1030 thus representing two times) and 257 for half a time, and we have 533 + 515 + 515 + 257 equals 1820. To this add 66, the number of the years of Our Saviour's age mu'tiplied by two as again representing two times, and the half of 33, or half a time, and there resnlts 1820 + 66 + 16=1902.

Again, the command of Cyrus for the rebuilding of Jerusalem and its walls was given B 0 534, and the command ot Artaxerxes B.C. 445, the period 534 8.0. to 445 B.C. equalling 89 years. Now if the years of Our Saviour's age (33), tha figures 89 and 445 be added together and to the result be added 445 as a time, nnd 800 as times, the product is oqoe more 1902.

Turning now to tho prophecies oE Jeremiah we read (Chap. XXV, ver. 5 and 26) of " Tho Cup o£ the Lord's Anger to be drunk by All Nations,"

Row note that the time when the Gentiles first received the gift of the Holy Ghost was A.D. 42, and the time when tho disciples were first called Christians at Antioch wus also A.D. '42. The years of these two times added together give 84. The time when Jeremiah was ordered to give the Cup was B 0. 606, and two times or twice 606 equal 1212. Add then 84+ 606 + 1212 and again the figures 1902. ('o be continued)
