OPENING OF THE NEW SOUTH WALES PARIAMENT
(Received March 9,3.30 p.m.) Sydney, March 9
Parliament was opened to-day with the customary ceremony by the Governor, who m his spetch announced that the session would be of short duration, and that it was proposed mainly to deal with financial matters. A Bill would be introduced without delay to establish a Customs tariff such as will give effect to the emphatic verdict of the electoral body m favor of the principle of unrestricted freedom to the development of the industries of the colony. Measures would also be proposed for the better working of the railways, and for the protection of the colony irom the influx of empires from New Caledonia, which latter it was hoped would receive the support of the other colonies. Other bills were promised, but are not to be introduced this session. The speech further announced that it was intended to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, and the centennary of the colony, and the House would te asked to approve of the steps to be taken.
