GREAT MAORI MEETING AT RUSSELL.

I mentioned a few days ago that the Native Minister had gone to Russel l , Bay of Islands, to be present at an important meeting of Natives of the Ngupahi tribe. To-day I received Information to the eflect that he wa3 recaived by the Natives with enthusiasm. The assemblage was the largest [and moat representative ia character ever got together at Russell and all tho principal men of the Ngapuhi were present. The {Ministor way accorded a warm and haarty welcome, and the Nativo3 aalutod him by raiaing and dipping the Union Jack six times. The most cordial relations, I am told, have . been established between tho Minister and the Native?. Thoro is more that ordinary significance to be attached to the salute given to Mr BaUanco, when it is remembered how Me Rolleaton was formerly received by tha same tribe on (he very spot selected for the reception of the present Nativa Minister. When Mr Rolleaton visited Russell, the JNatives reversed the British fhg, and placed the oolours of the Maori King over it. What a contrast between them and now 1
