Fire at Auckland. Auckland, Maroh 7, Yesterday afternoou Panama House, a wooden building of twelve rooms, m Lower Symonds street, was destroyed by fire. O. P. Netvcombe, who occupied the house, left at 10 a.m. with his family for church and had not returned when the fire broke -out, An examination shewed that the ohlmney of the kltohen was badly constructed and may havo oaused the fire. Several houses m the neighborhood and St Andrews High Sohool, at times caught fire, but the flames were quenched by tho firemen who worked splendidly, and two of whom Geo. -Mays ' and Mr Wai.e, sustained injuries. The insurance is not known More Borrowing. The Mount Eden Highway Distriot haß resolved to borrow £7500 to provide a | water supply. The poll on Saturday I shewed a large majority of ratepayers m favor. Strike of Collier.. The coal miners at Kawakawa have struck work on account of the shareholders giviog notice of a reduotion of wages amounting to 15 per cent. The men offer to accept a 5 per cent reduotion. It is stated the former wagss wers 83 per day but the men could only work eight days m a fortnight. Another Fire. Gisborne, March 7. A fire broke out this morning m th** stables of the Albion O !ub Hotel and spread to thy hotel and shops adjoining, as far as Adams' bookseller. The Loan and Mercantile Company's buildings have just (10. a.m.) caught. Tne buildings^ on the opposite side also caught fire, but' it waa speedily put out. m Found Drowned. Napier, Marob 7. A man named Thomas lteynold. was found drowned on Sunday morning at the mouth cf tho Ngaraawaro river. Be was suffering from melancholy when he went to bed on Friday night. His wife ro.e to call him on Saturday morning and found him gono. Hia wife occupied a Boparat. room. Search was made -all >hat d>y, and on Sunday the body wa? found on the beach . Dunedin, March 7 A fire at Lawr.nco destroyed the premises of McNicol, storekeeper, Middlemas, blacksmith, aod S. Wilson and Co., storekeepers. The latter were insured m the Equitable and Union offices, £400 on tho building aud £850 on the stock. An Ineffectual Search. iNVEROARGItL, March 7. The Government steamer Stella returned to tho Bluff to-day, after a thorough Bearch for the missing boat's crew. All the islands m Foveaux Btraits were carefully examined, but no trace of men or wreckage could be found.
