THE ITALIAN ARMY AND NAVY.
The semi-official organ of tho Hungarian Government, tba " Pesther Lloyd," publishes an article on the state of the Italian army and navy, whioh has produced a considerable Impression. The •'Pesther L'oyd " eayß :— " Itily haß achieved within the last ten years the greatest progress m her military organisation. No one witnessing at the present moment the manoeuvres of the Italain army and navy would believe that he had before his eyes the same army and navy whioh Austria confronted m 1866 The unification which has been effected m the arm; is nimply marvellous. There are no longer Piedmontese, Tuscans, and Neapolitans forming part of tho army. The Italian soldier now feels that hegiß essentially Italian, precisely as m Germany the contingents of tha different States do not consider themselves as men of Wurtemberg or Baden, but soldiers of the Fatherland. The feeling of unity is far stronger m the Italian array than m the German, The Italian fl jet ia mno way inferior to the French, and, as regards the technical perfection o? the material, it is superior to the English." ,
