THE REVOLT IN SILISTRIA
[rioter's telegrams— copyright .] Sofia, March 3 Nothing authentic has yet been received as to the position of affairs m Silistria owing to the telegraph lines having been cut. It is generally believed, however, that the insurgents have fled from the city. Reports are to hand from Rustchuk that the rising has spread to that place, and that severe fighting has taken place betwesn the Loyalists and the rebels, resulting m great bloodshed on both sides. Advices from Silistria report that the organisers of the revolt m that town were cashiered Bulgarian officers, and they summoned the troops to join m rebellion. On Feb. 26 they proclaimed M. Zankoff Regent, and afterwards frequent encounters took between the loyalists and rebels, until troops from Shumla arrived on the 2nd instant, and suppressed the insurrection, twenty of the ringleaders being shot. The revolts at Silistria and Rustchuk have now been entirely suppressed. The people of Rustchuk armed themselves. A twelve hours' engagement took place between the insurgents and Loyalists, and ultimately the former fled to the Danube, where they were captured. In the conflict many were wounded on both sides. (B waived Marohß, 12.15 pro.) Constantinople, March 4 According to latest accounts from Silistria and Rustchuk, the authority of the Bulgarian Regents is now completely restored m those towns. Telegrams are to hand from Sofia announcing that Karavaloff, formerly one of the Regents, with 30 others, has besn arrested m that city, but the cause of arrest is not stated.
