ANOTHER BIG FIRE.

Auckland, February 28.

At 7 SO last night a fire broke out m Sussex street, Eden terrace, and before It wat checked caused damage to the extent of £2600, a!x dwelling houses being destroyed. The fire began »t the residence of Patrick Brady m tho centro of the b'oik and'fjpread both ways. Being beyond the the bity boundary and having no water supply the flames oenld not be checked except by the efforts of the Salvage Corps, nnderCaptßin Field, The origiu of the fire is unknown. Houses destroyed were oooupled and insured as follows :— Brady, £160, Colonial ; Johnston, £200, Colonial; Brans, £150, South British; Shepherd, £100, Sonth British; Captain Nicholas, £175, New Z jaland ; Baylis, insured by Building Sooiety, Company not known. Bisks on furniture destroyed wero held by the South British, £40; Colonial, £50; New Zealand £100. Attwood'a house, partly destroyed, was insured for £200 m the New Zealand. While workIng at A tt wood's house to arreat the fire at that point Captain Field got severely ■3orohed about the fao ; Mr Crowther also suffered similarly while driving the salvage corps break down to the aoeae of the fire. The street was so narrow that one turning the oornoir loto Sussex street he had to ran the gauntlet past a row of burning houses, and to add to the trouble some people had put their things out on the roadway, so there was no help for it but to drive smash through household goods, Mr Orowther getting scorched about the faoe and the off horse scorohed so badly that he had to take it out the break and get a fresh h or B^ from town
