FRANCE AND GERMANY.
FRENCH PREPAREDNESS,
The Auckland correspondent of the Otogo Daily Times says:— A French artillery captain, who has been on a v?sit to the French and Australasian colonies, lins left Auckland for Sydney and France. This gentleman has been recalled to join his regiment m view of the probable outbreak of war between Franco and Germany. While m Auckland he expressed his belief that no nation was better prepared for war than France, as the arsenals and stores wore filled with arms, ammunition, and provisions of the very best quality and typo. The gallant captain was anxious to reach home before the commencement of hoa ilities. He said the French soldiers had full confidence m their officers, whilst tho latter placed the greatest reliance on tho perfection of their armament and the enthusiasm which tho patriotic Gauls would display m the coming struggle.
