DEATH OF MR JAMES MACANDREW M.H.R
Dunedin, Fobruary 24. The accident which happened to Mr James Macandrew, M.8.X., while driving home yesterday, was more Berious than was at firet thought. Two riba were broken, the Bplne was Injured, and other internal hurt* were received. He passed a very restless., night, and tc-day he gradually tank, expiring about 3.30 from rapture of the bladder and internal hemorrhrgd.
Mr Macandrew was 07 years rf age. He was born m Aberdeen m 1820, and after some years went to London. He took a great interest m the scheme for the settlement cf Otago by the Free Church of Scotland. He eventually decided to cast m his lot with the settlement, and having purchased an iron schooner, he and his family Bet sail In 18E0 -After hla settlement m Otago, he commenced to take an active part m public affairs, and his enterprise m start* ing cew industries of various kinds led to the e&tablltfhment of shipbuilding. He introduced the first steamer. He was elected member of the first Provincial '.'ouncil, and was also a member of the first House of Representatives. He becamo Superintendent m 1860, and served several tents, holding cflioa when the Provinces were abolished. He leaves a family, most of whom are grown up.
Dunediv, February 25. Mr Macandrew's funeral will take place onJWonday. The Mayor will proclaim a half holiday. Mr Macandrew will be buried near his residence. At all public buildings the flagß are at balfmaßt. Wellington, February 25 Probably one Minister will leave by the Hinemoa to-night to attend Mr Maoandrew'e funeral.
