THE TONGA OUTRAGE.
An Auckland telegram from the Preei Association gives the text of letters received by the Rev M. Bavin, Welt y*v Minster of that city, from the Rev Mr Moulton, relative to the present deplorable condition of affairs m Tonga- Be> ferring to the statement that David Tln ; , a Native Minister, had co- fe«Bed tv having been one of he orluimtors of th> scheme to murder the Riv Shirley Bakt>r, M> Moultoa cays:— "Don't ! c ieve word of it. He waa accidentally m»oo acquainted with it the night before, and that Is all. He erred Is not acting vu the imperfect Information he received, and reporting it. As the Court was held with closed doors it Ib impossible to say accurately what had taken place, but 1 heard from a creditable source that David's statement, that he was only madt accqualnted with it the night before, was confirmed by the two moßt important witnesses. Nor do I think that my head student, John Auckan. could have been privy to it." Finally, Mr Moulton asks his Wesleyan friends m New ZeaI laud to suspend judgment, and concludes. "I know that when the timt eomee when all shall be revealed, it wiil be seen that the Wesley an s of Tonga hay« done nothing to be ashamed of."
