The vessel Lubeck has arrived from Apia. She briDgs news from Tonga that six men for attempted assassination of Mr Baker, were shot at Malona Island on February is, m the presence of the Crown Prince of Tonga, and a number of Natives. Two others who were implicated m the outrage have been remanded. Miss Baker, who was severely wounded, is not expected to recover. Mr Bakers son, however, is progressing towards recovery. Mr Baker himself is a guest at the Queen's palace, which is guarded by troops.

The Register newspaper estimates the yield ot wheat of South Australia this season at ten millions eight hundred and thirty-five thousand bushels being an average of 5-31 per acre. It estimates the available surplus at a hundred and ninety thousand tons, being a hundred and fifteen thousand m excess of the previous year.
