MASSACRES IN NEW GUINEA
Brisbane, February 2. News of further massaores by the natives m New Guinea have been received by the steamer Victory, whioh has arrived at Thursday Island from Port Moraeby. It 1b stated that at Motu Motu the na'ives are very troublesome and unsettled. Or. the 6th January they killed In a moat oold blooded manner a man, woman, and a ohild belonging to Moranla who were staying at Motu. The warriors ..then proceeded up the William Biver to Morania, and killed sixteen more men, women and ohildren. On the 10th Mr Hdelfelt and a mission teacher went to Morania and learned that the Motnans, m ambush, had killed several Moranians going to and retarning from work. There previously had been friendship between these tribes, and no reason was given for the masaaore. , The Motuans have been holding a great feast since, and now state their intention to masaacre the people and bum the villiage of Kerewa m the same way. There will probably be reprisals shortly. Great sickness and many deaths \ huve ucourred among the natives m MotH Motu, Morania, and Kerewa.
