ASHBURTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The usual monthly meeting of the Ashburton Borough School Committee was hold laot evening. Pteaent — Messrs Duncan (Chairman), Dimint and Silcook. CORRESPOND EKOE. The following correspondence was read : — From the Board of Education stating that Messrs Weston and Ohrystall had consented to be nominated aa candidates for seats on the Board.— From the samo, enclosing sfcaodard certificates. From Mr Oraighead resigning hia Beat on the Committee. — The resiga nion was accepted with regret, and, oa the motion or Me Dlmant, it was resolved that Mi' W. Cral<head be -written to asking him to accept the seat. — From Mr F. Haßlam requesting the Committee to support his candidature for a seat on the Bjard. ATTBNDANCB. Tne Ohairman reported on the attendance certificates. It -was resolved that the three children who had attended the full number of times reoeive the first-class certificates and that their photographs be placed on them ; also that those children who had atteaded 200 times reoeive seoond-olass certificates. PAINTING. It was resolved thit the painting of the caretaker's cottage be proceeded with, under the supervision of the Ohairman, and that the tender of Mr Johnston at £4 10s be accepted for the work. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chairman reported having had the ventilators attended to as requested. I The matter waß referred to the Visiting Committee. The ucual monthly accounts were passed for payment. On the motion of Mr Siloook, seconded by Mr Diroant, it was resolved that the thanks of the Committee be tendered to Mr D. il. Brown for the use of his paddock for the treat. The Committee fcben adjourned.
